Connected medication package and wearable activity recognition algorithms.
Poor medication adherence is often responsible for poor outcomes. Doctors, patients, and Pharma need a system to passively and accurately monitor medication adherence.
Circadic created a connected, multidose pouch system that can detect when a particular pouch has been opened to release its payload. A wearable-based activity recognition algorithm can then track activities that follow the opening of the pouch and are related to the action of consuming oral medication.
Circadic has developed a proprietary system that detects when a medication pouch has been torn open and thus the medication payload can be delivered. The system consists of a printed circuit that runs the entire roll of pouches and is equipped with a transmission unit that communicates events to the cloud. Following an event, the wearable-based activity recognition algorithm looks for motion and sound patterns, related to the swallowing of oral medication, to confirm delivery of the medication. The system was shown to perform with a 92% accuracy in a real-world setup.
